Breeding system
DanBred’s breeding work, along with our strong crossbreeding program, has led to the development of the DanBred Hybrid production sow, which has unique mothering abilities and good longevity and guarantees more viable pigs per litter, along with weaners and finishers with high daily gain and optimum feed conversion. A success created due to a year-long breeding effort focusing on breeding objectives which strengthen cost efficiencies along the entire value chain.
DanBred DNA tests 100% of our breeding animals and was the first to introduce genomic selection into the breeding system.
We continuously collect data on all DanBred breeding animals. This data comes from DNA test, performance test on individual pigs as well as performance test from boar stations. Based on the data, all breeding animals are given a breeding index, which makes it easier to select the best individuals for future generations.
DanBred genetics proved best in test. When the DanBred Hybrid sow was compared to production sows from six other breeding systems.
All DanBred customers can access relevant information about our breeding animals in the officially approved Herd-Book (also named DanBred databank). They can see, for example, the index values for all registered animals. And they can have zootechnical certificates issued for all their breeding animals. This helps ensure the system is perceived as trustworthy.
The breeding objective focuses on creating gains in the genetic traits, and so maximising the economic for all producers who use DanBred genetics.
Over the last three years, DanBred has achieved a genetic gain of DKK 44.49/€ 5.97 per finisher.
