"Switching to DanBred has boosted our production, and given us enough economic leverage to expand, even in a challenging economic climate like Malaysia"

Teratai received the first DanBred animals from Denmark in 1997, and in 2014 they averaged 20 weaned pigs per sow per year. They were clearly not realizing the full potential of their DanBred animals.
That is when they contacted DanBred and asked for a service visit from the DanBred technical services team. This would change everything. In the course of 5 years, their business was transformed, and their production and earnings increased markedly.
With expert advice from DanBred, in the course of 5 years, Teratai has gone from 20 to 27 weaned pigs per sow per year, which has resulted in massive savings for the company.
Teratai Malaysia has been able to downsize from 6300 to 5500 sows, and still produce the same number of weaners. This means less feed costs, which makes a clear difference on the bottom line.
Teratai calculates with 1200 kilos of feed per sow per year – with 800 less sows, that’s a saving of 960,000 kilos feed per year.
DanBred’s tecnical team advised Teratai on making controlled changes in its facilities and management routines, which helped the company realize the full potential of their DanBred animals.
In July 2018, 1,560 DanBred sows were moved to Jementah 2 – a new farm, which was constructed using the newest Danish farm technology and designed specifically for DanBred animals, whereas the old build, Jementah 1, was built in the 1990s after Malaysian standards.
“DanBred animals are unique. They are the Ferrari of pig genetics. The facilities must match their needs, the space they occupy and the way we manage them. It’s a different way of thinking, and you need to be ready for that,” says manager at Jementah 2, Mr. Wang.

The number of weaned pigs per sow per year has increased significantly, from 20 to 27. This makes it possible to produce the same number of weaners with 800 fewer sows – and thereby save 960,000 kilos feed every year.
“I have listened to and implemented all the advice the DanBred technical team has given me. This has boosted our production, and given us enough economic leverage to expand, even in a challenging economic climate like Malaysia,” Mr. Wang says. “To anyone thinking of making the switch to DanBred, I would say: Go for it! The benefits definitely outweigh the changes you must make in your management routines.”
“The DanBred technical services managers changed our way of working and, ultimately, our business. We are now able to match the DanBred pigs’ needs, and I’m very happy with that. I like the improvement I see in my staff, in the facilities and, at the end of the day, on the bottom line,” Mr. Wang explains.
""DanBred is a good match for us, because we are ambitious, and we have implemented structures and routines that match our DanBred animals’ needs.""
